Barça Legends – Manchester United Legends June 30 at the Camp Nou.

Sometimes we all get this “I wish I had lived back then…”, reasons just vary. Neo-hippies would time travel to Woodstock, history freaks to check the truth of the pyramids of Giza and every reasonable person would go to murder Hitler. But I’d go back to year 1994… to see the Dream Team.

The Dream Team was a creation of Johan Cryuff, legendary player, manager and influential person of Ajax, FC Barcelona and Holland national team. Cruyff came to manage FC Barcelona 1989 and made something special. Mixing of the Spanish and foreign stars was not only lethal on the pitch, but also stylish in a way that modern teams can only envy.

Cruyff created, collected and led the team, but the individual players made it. I’ll introduce some of them to you:

Johan Cruyff, The Coach and The Legend. As mentioned, Cruyff came to FC Barcelona in 1989 and he left the club in 1996. “El Salvador” has been maybe the most influential person in the whole history of FC Barcelona. He passed away 24th of March 2016.

Andoni Zubizarreta. The Basque goalkeeper played 8 years in Blaugrana shirt. Despite his 126 international matches, Zubi never was really fond of Spain or Spanish government. He used to hide the flag of Spain from his La Roja socks.

Ronald Koeman was one of the brightest stars of many Dutch players during the Dream Team era. Koeman scored the winning goal in the European Cup against Sampdoria at Wembley 1992. Unforgettable moment for any culé.

Michael Laudrup. The Great Dane was the maestro of the midfield. In 1990 Laudrup decided to end his international career after following the differences with Richard Moller Nielsen. Surprisingly Denmark won the European Championship without its brightest star.

Hristo Stoichkov. The Hero of Yours Truly. Stoichkov was aggressive, skillful and fast and he could play any attacking position. And he is here soon again!

It’s rumored that Barça Legends team would include players like Stoichkov, Vítor Baía, Edmílson, Popescu, Ronald de Boer and Mendieta. Manchester United is also still a mystery, but names like Paul Scholes , Dwight Yorke and Denis Irwin are mentioned.

And the “crack”? The new ambassador of FC Barcelona? Ronaldinho? Oh please let it be him!
